Raleigh General Announces Winning Name for New Floor Cleaning Robot
June 10, 2026
After receiving nearly 200 creative entries from employees and community members, Raleigh General Hospital has officially selected a name for its new autonomous floor cleaning robot: Floorence Moppingale.
The winning name pays tribute to Florence Nightingale, widely recognized as the founder of modern nursing. Nightingale's emphasis on cleanliness, pioneering hospital sanitation, and patient care revolutionized healthcare and established principles that continue to guide hospitals today.
Floorence recently joined Raleigh General Hospital's Environmental Services team and uses advanced autonomous technology to help maintain a clean, safe, and welcoming environment throughout the hospital. The robot assists with cleaning large floor areas, allowing Environmental Services staff to focus on detailed cleaning and other important responsibilities that support patient care.
"We were thrilled by the response to our naming contest," said David Brash, CEO of Raleigh General Hospital. "The name Floorance Moppingale perfectly reflects both our commitment to innovation and our respect for the healthcare professionals whose work continues to inspire us today."
The naming contest generated nearly 200 submissions and highlighted the community's enthusiasm for the hospital's continued investment in technologies that support patient care and operational excellence.
While Floorence may be one of the newest members of the Raleigh General team, her mission is simple: help create the clean, healing environment that patients, visitors, and staff deserve. For more information about Raleigh General Hospital, visit RaleighGeneral.com.
