Raleigh General Urologist Reaches Milestone with 200 Aquablation Procedures

March 16, 2026

Raleigh General Hospital is proud to announce that Dr. L. Faith Payne, urologist, has successfully performed 200 Aquablation therapy procedures, marking a significant milestone in bringing advanced urologic care to southern West Virginia.

Aquablation therapy is a minimally invasive, robotically guided treatment used to treat benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH), commonly known as enlarged prostate. The innovative technology uses real-time imaging and a high-pressure water jet to precisely remove prostate tissue, helping relieve urinary symptoms while preserving surrounding structures.

Dr. Payne was among the early adopters of Aquablation therapy in West Virginia, becoming the second physician in the state to offer the procedure. She remains the only urologist within a 55-mile radius performing Aquablation therapy, providing patients in southern West Virginia access to this advanced treatment option close to home.

“This milestone reflects both the need for advanced treatment options in our region and the trust our patients place in us,” said Dr. Payne. “Aquablation therapy allows us to treat enlarged prostate with incredible precision while improving outcomes and helping patients recover more quickly.”

Benign prostatic hyperplasia affects millions of men and can cause symptoms such as frequent urination, difficulty starting urination, and disrupted sleep due to nighttime bathroom trips. Aquablation therapy combines robotic technology and real-time ultrasound imaging to deliver precise treatment that can improve patient outcomes and quality of life.

“This milestone reflects Raleigh General Hospital’s commitment to bringing advanced technology and specialized care to the communities we serve,” said David L. Brash, Chief Executive Officer of Raleigh General Hospital. “Through investments in innovative procedures like Aquablation and the hard work of our surgical and urology teams led by Dr. Payne, we are ensuring patients in southern West Virginia have access to high-quality care close to home without the need to travel far for treatment.”

Men experiencing symptoms related to prostate health are encouraged to speak with their primary care provider or a urology specialist about available treatment options.
