Hospital Laboratory Upgrades Enhance Speed and Quality of Patient Testing
January 22, 2026
Raleigh General Hospital is proud to announce the recent upgrade of its hospital laboratory with a new chemistry analyzer, expanding testing capabilities and significantly reducing turnaround times for patients and providers.
This advanced system allows the laboratory to perform a wide range of critical tests on a single platform, including metabolic panels, pregnancy testing (hCG), thyroid studies, and five newly added drug screens. Notably, the analyzer also enables troponin testing with results available in as little as 15 minutes, a critical diagnostic tool for identifying heart attacks and rapidly guiding lifesaving treatment. This capability is essential to maintaining Raleigh General Hospital’s cardiac catheterization lab accreditation and directly supports the hospital’s Level III trauma designation.
The new analyzer also expands the hospital’s ability to perform enhanced opiate drug screening, a service currently unique to Raleigh General Hospital in the region. This expanded testing reflects the hospital’s proactive approach to addressing the evolving needs of the community and supports patient safety, emergency care, and appropriate clinical decision-making in the face of the ongoing opioid crisis.
By streamlining laboratory workflows and delivering faster, more precise results, the upgraded system strengthens coordination across clinical teams and ensures providers have timely information when it matters most. These advancements reinforce Raleigh General Hospital’s commitment to delivering high-quality, responsive care across emergency, trauma, and cardiac services.
“This upgrade reflects our ongoing commitment to investing in technology that directly benefits our patients,” said David Brash, CEO of Raleigh General Hospital. “We are incredibly proud of our laboratory professionals. Their willingness to adapt, learn, and lead ensures our community continues to receive exceptional, lifesaving care close to home.”
From training through implementation, the laboratory team successfully adopted the new technology while maintaining the highest standards of quality, safety, and service excellence.
