Honoring Breast Cancer Awareness Beyond October

November 04, 2025

At Raleigh General Hospital’s Advanced Wound Care and Hyperbaric Medicine Center, our commitment to breast cancer survivors continues well beyond Breast Cancer Awareness Month.

Many survivors face ongoing challenges from treatment, including soft tissue radionecrosis (STRN) and delayed healing after radiation therapy. Our team provides advanced wound care to help improve healing and quality of life through:

Personalized wound assessment from an experienced multidisciplinary team
Advanced treatments including negative pressure wound therapy and bio-engineered tissues
Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy (HBOT) to improve pain, reduce fibrosis and swelling, and help restore mobility

Soft Tissue Radionecrosis refers to radiation-induced damage to soft tissue (muscle, skin, subcutaneous tissue) in previously treated areas.

Symptoms can include:

•Persistent non-healing wounds or ulcers
• Pain, swelling, or limited mobility

• Tissue stiffness or reduced elasticity

At Raleigh General, we’re proud to stand beside survivors and their care teams—offering specialized therapies designed to support long-term healing and recovery.

If you or someone you know is experiencing wound healing challenges following breast cancer treatment, our Wound Care Center is here to help. Call for more information at 304.254.3047
